Red Deer teen sex assault trial hears of unwanted advances

The court hears from more witnesses about sexual assault charges against a Red Deer teen during outings with scouts and cadets.

A trial in Red Deer is hearingfrom more teenagers who say they were sexually assaulted by another teen while attending camps or outings withScouts Canada and Cadets Canada.

The alleged assaults occurredbetween 2007 and 2015.

The accused whowas 17 at thetime of his arrest andcannot be named under law faces nine counts including sexual assault and sexual assault with a weapon.

One teen girl testified the accused madeunwanted sexualadvances four differenttimes between 2013 and early 2014. She said theydatedfor one day and the pair hadconsensually kissed, but shestoppedit going further.

During cross-examination, defense argued that those advances did not occur and her testimony was inconsistent with the originalstatement she gave to police.

The five alleged victims include boys and girls.

ThreeRCMP officers are expected to testify over the multi-day trial which is expected to continue into next Monday and Wednesdayat Red Deer youth court.
