Mother's Day: Easy, last-minute, do-it-yourself gifts

Mother's Day is tomorrow! If you're a DIYer and you haven't yet made your mom a fabulous one-of-a-kind gift, what are you waiting for? Here's some inspiration from around the interweb to get those creative juices flowing and fast.

1. Re-purpose a mug

Make one or several! of these marbled beauties thatcost only about $5 to make butlook like you bought them at a classy home goods store. We found this tutorial at diycandy.com.

2. Washi tape coasters

If you have kids in the house or you're a crafter already, then you know what washi tape is.

If you don't welcome this decorative miracle product into your life now!

There are now entire books dedicated to crafting with washi tape, which comes in every colour and pattern you can imagine.

These little DIY coasters are so cute, and mom can actually use them (see mugs, above)! Follow the directions here.

3. Wine cork vases

Does your mom like wine? (Suppress giggle of course she does!)

Repurpose a secondhand glass vase with a dab of glue and some of your cork collection.

And as this tutorial at designimprovised.com suggests, add a bottle of her favourite wine for extra brownie points.

4. Art is for the birds

Get the kids or grandkids involved in this one: dove art created with tiny fingerprints.

5. Easy photo collage

Make copies of 14 to 20 photos that are special to you and Mom.

Following these directions, carefully adhere each photo to a thick piece of white cardstock and finish by assembling your collage, fitting the photos together using the cut slits.

6. Plus a few freebies

Of course, what your mom would likely love most of all, if she's like me, is to spend time with her children.

Go for a walk, or take her to the Island Storm basketball game Sunday at 2 p.m. tickets are free for momwith the purchase of at least one ticket.

Or offer to tune up her bike, or weed her garden.
