Ex-Mountie pleads guilty to 10 counts of money laundering

A retired New Brunswick RCMP officer accused of smuggling narwhal tusks across the border pleaded guilty Wednesday in a U.S. court to 10 money-laundering counts.

Gregory Logan, 59, faces up to 20 years in prison and a $500,000 fine for each count

A retired New Brunswick RCMP officer accused of smugglingnarwhal tusks across the border pleaded guilty Wednesdayin a U.S.court to 10 money-laundering counts.

Prosecutors said 59-year-old Gregory Logan of Saint John smuggled250 tusks valued at $1.5 million to $3 millioninto Maine infalse compartments in his vehicle.

Narwhals are medium-sized whales known for spiral tusks that cangrow longer than 2.5 metres and are protected.

Logan faces up to 20 years in prison and a $500,000fine for each count.
