Sask. chefs competing for Gold Medal Plates titles in Regina, Saskatoon

The competition celebrates cuisine, wine and the arts, all in support of Olympic athletes and gives chefs a chance to compete nationally.

Winners go on to national competition in Kelowna, B.C.

The competition is held in a number of Canadian cities. It celebrates cuisine, wine and the arts, all in support of Olympic athletes and gives chefs a chance to earn a spot in the Canadian Culinary Championships.

Regina's contest was held Friday night with seven chefs in the competition.

Top spot was awarded to Garrett Thienes of Harvest Eatery and Fresh Market in Shaunavon.

On Saturday night, eight chefs tookpart in the competition based in Saskatoon. It was held at TCU Place.

Scott Torgerson from the Radisson Hotel and Aroma Resto Bar in Saskatoon took home gold, Christopher Hill from the Delta Bessborough won silver and Anthony McCarthy from the Saskatoon Club won bronze.

The gold medal winners go on to compete in the national contest in Kelowna, B.C., in February 2017.
