Ding in the new year

Transit will run on its regular Sunday schedule on both Sunday and Monday.

For New Year's Eve on Saturday, transit service will be free thanks to a partnership between Saskatoon Transit and SGI.

Free rides begin at 5 p.m. CST and continue until 2:45 a.m. Sunday to give people choosing to imbibe in celebrations a safe way to get around the city.

In years past, free New Year's Eve transit began at 8 p.m. This year, it's beginning earlier to give people going to YXE-NYE-150 a ride.

The celebration, held at Kiwanis Memorial Park, celebrates Canada's 150th anniversary of confederation and includes a fireworks finale from the Broadway Bridge.

The bridge, meanwhile, will be closed to vehicle traffic from 5to 9 p.m. Spadina Crescent will also be closed from 22nd Street to 24th Street from 3to 9:30 p.m.
