Mysterious noise sparks discovery of crypto power plant in Alberta

A mysterious noise frustrating an affluent Alberta community sparked the discovery of a secretly set up bitcoin-mining operation. CBC Calgarys Sarah Rieger explains.

It all started when residents of an affluent community near Edmontonheard a disruptive noise from what they thought was a defunct natural gas facility nearby. That led to claims of sleepless nights, complaintsand eventually,a months-long investigation that uncovered a power plant secretly set up to mine cryptocurrencyon a dormant gas well.
