Special garbage pickup for flooding in Windsor region

Windsor Disposal Services will be picking up garbage in Tecumseh Monday and Tuesday for residents looking to throw out items damaged in last week's flooding.

Windsor, Tecumsehand Lakeshore have scheduled special garbage pickupdays for people whose homes were damaged during last week's flooding.

Windsor Disposal Services will be picking up garbage in TecumsehMonday and Tuesdayfor residents looking to throw out damaged items.

The Town of Tecumseh announced the special pickup Monday morning.

Windsor plans to have a special garbage pickup on Friday, starting in an area east of Walker Road. Another special pickup will scheduled, if required, according to city officials.

Materials collected in Windsor includemattresses, appliances, rugs, furniture, and building materials. Nails must be removed from all wood and drywall and appliances must have doors secured shut.

The hard-sided garbage container by-law will be waived for this special collection, but all loose material must be placed in bags.Collection crews will not pick up loose material.

The city reminds residents to not place household chemical waste, paint cans, and other chemicals at the curb.

In Lakeshore, residents are advised to put their damaged items at the curb on their regular garbage day. Large material such as furniture, drywall and carpeting will be picked up, butResidents mustcontact Windsor Disposal Service at 519-944-8009 to arrange for free refrigerator pickup.

Homeowners are reminded to check in with their insurance companies before removing anything from flooded areas.
