Drake-dissing Meek Mill offers shout-out amid Twitter spat

Meek Mill has taken a half-step back from his social media diss of Drake, offering a backhanded compliment of the Canadian star amid a feud that's drawn headlines and embroiled a Toronto city councillor.

During a concert appearance in Virginia onWednesday night, the American rapper clarified his Twitter comments (from a night earlier) in which he charged that Drake doesn't write his own lyrics.

"Shout-out to Drake, let him be great in all ... he gonna be great in," Mill told the audience.

However, he also reiterated, "I was just upset as a fan that [he] gave me a verse that he ain't write," referencing the verse Drake offered for the track R.I.C.O. from Mill's recent album Dreams Worth More than Money.

The Toronto rapper apparently commented on the online feud in an Instagram chat with battle rapper Hitman Holla, who posted their exchange.

"I signed up for greatness. This comes with it," reads the response from Drake's @ChampagnePapi account.

Though Drake typically doesn't directly address beefs with other performers publicly, his longtime producer, Noah (40) Shebib, did weigh in on the spat. He noted the man Mills has referenced as Drake's ghostwriter (Quentin Miller) is listed as a collaborator.

"You can see that by reading the credits," Shebib posted online via Twitter.

"If someone wants to be upset that Drake made a great album, go for it. Get mad all day ... but don't ever question my brother's pen."

Politician embroiled in social media spat

Mill's online allegations Tuesday night cause furorin the hip hop community thatquickly rippled out further, even drawing inCoun.Norm Kelly, a former deputy mayor of Toronto who regularly offers pithy Twitter posts and references Drake on social media.

Meek Mill is set to join romantic partner (and equally vocal social media pontificator) Nicki Minaj for a Toronto performance on Tuesday as part of her Pinkprint Tour.
