Incredibles 2 is coming, with director Brad Bird at the helm

Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl and the whole super family will be pulling on their matching spandex suits for The Incredibles 2, with director Brad Bird back at the helm.

The American filmmaker, who is currently promoting hisscience fiction mystery movie Tomorrowland, starring George Clooney, confirmed to the trade publicationCollider that work has begunon the long awaited animated sequel.

"I'm writing it," said Bird, who also wrote and directed the 2004 originalabout a family of reluctant super heroes.

"I had a lot of ideas for the originalIncrediblesthat I didn't get a chance to use,"hesaid. "There are new ideas I have, and I think there are enough of those together to make an interesting movie."

In the first film, Craig T. Nelson voiced Mr. Incredible, thepatriarch in the midst of a midlife crisis,whileHolly Hunter played the protective mother, Elastigirl.

The plot saw herforced to allow her wholefamily, including hersuper-speedy son Dashand her disappearing daughterInvisigirl,to come out of hidingwhen theevil villain Syndrome (Jason Lee) threatens to destroy all the super heroes in the world.

The filmgrossed more than $630 million US at the worldwide box office.

Disney, whichpurchased Pixar in 2006,confirmed plans for The Incredibles 2in 2014, but no mention has been made of who will star in the sequel or what the plot will be, but fans might not have to wait too long to find out.

WithTomorrowland slated to hit Canadian theatres later this month,Bird says he'll soon befree to focus on "playing with The Incredibles sandbox again."

Bird also revealed that he was approached byLucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy about the possibility of directing one of the Star Wars films, but that he was too busy with The Incredibles sequel to think about jumping into thatfranchise just now.
