NFB's Highrise web project wins Digital Emmy

The National Film Board of Canada has won an International Digital Emmy Award for its web-based project Highrise/Out My Window.

The award was given for best digital non-fiction program during the television industry show MIPTVin Cannes, France on Monday. Highrise was the only Canadian nominee.

Toronto's Katerina Cizek directed and Gerry Flahive produced the multimedia project, which looks at life inside high-rise apartment blocks in 13 cities. Highrise combines interactive 360-degree photography, video, text and music in 49 real-life vignettes.

Cizek is previous winner of a Webby Award for her documentary series about life inside Toronto's St. Michael's Hospital.

Interactive web-based series Shankaboot, set in and around Beirut and considered the world's first Arab web program, won the Digital Emmy for best fiction program.

Battlefront II, a British-made series about a group of teens on a mission to save the world, won the award for best show for children and youth. There are only three Digital Emmy categories.
