National Film Board of Canada interactive documentary Bear 71 has been named Site of the Year by U.K.-based Favourite Website Awards.

Calling Bear 71 "a captivating and thought-provoking experience," FWA founder Rob Ford said it went beyond experimenting with technology.

"In a year when we have seen so much experimental work, so many agencies and clients focused on just trying to be cool with mobile, I was delighted to see a real idea and a powerful story win this years Site of the Year," he said.

Bear 71 takes viewers on a digital tour of Banff National Park through the eyes of a female grizzly bear.

Created by Jeremy Mendes, Leanne Allison and the NFBs Loc Dao, the interactive project chronicles the troubled relations between humans and bears in the park.

The NFB won the Gold Cyber Lion Award at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in June 2012 for Bear 71.
