Barbra Streisand joins Oscars performance lineup

Barbra Streisand is returning to the Academy Awards, with producers revealing that the veteran singer will be among the performers taking the stage at the upcoming gala.

Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced Wednesday that the actress and singer has "agreed to do a very special performance" at the Feb. 24 ceremony.

"In an evening that celebrates the artistry of movies and music, how could the telecast be complete without Barbra Streisand?" they said in a statement.

The appearance will mark Streisand's first time singing at the Oscars in more than three decades.

Streisand, 70,is a two-time Academy Award-winner. She shared the best actress trophy for Funny Girl (in a tie with Katharine Hepburn for The Lion in Winter) in 1968 and the best original song prize in 1976 for her tune Evergreen, the theme from A Star Is Born.

She was also an Oscar nominee for her performance in The Way We Were, for producing the best-picture contender The Prince of Tides and for co-writing the song I Finally Found Someone from the film The Mirror Has Two Faces.

In 2012, Streisand was seen in the mother-son comedy The Guilt Trip,put out the compilation album Release Me and performed a number of well-received concerts.

She's the latest blockbuster performer lined up for the Oscars telecast by Zadan and Meron,known for producing plays and musicals for film, TV and stage. The Academy Awards gals isone of the most widely-watched programs in the world.

The producers previously revealed that Norah Jones will perform the Oscar-nominated song Everybody Needs a Best Friend (from the comedy Ted), and thatAdele will sing her nominated James Bond theme Skyfall at the gala.

Hosted by comedian Seth MacFarlane, the 85th Academy Awards will be broadcast from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Feb. 24.
