Ang Lee, Nicole Kidman join Cannes jury

Organizers of the 2013 Cannes Film Festival have unveiled a powerhouse jury including Oscar-winners Ang Lee, Nicole Kidman and Christoph Waltz to choose the winner of its main competition.

Organizers of the 2013 Cannes Film Festival have unveiled a powerhouse juryincluding Oscar-winners Ang Lee, Nicole Kidman and Christoph Waltzto choose the winner of its main competition.

"Eight international movie personalities of very high level will help [previously announcedjury president Steven Spielberg] award the prizes. They are all engaged and active in several creation spheres," the organizers said in a statement.

Taiwanese filmmaker and Life of Pi director Lee and Spielberg, who directed Lincoln, were rivals during the film awards season earlier this year. Lee ultimately landed hissecond best-director Oscarfor Life of Pi in February.

Noted Austrian actor Waltz also picked up a second Academy Award at February's ceremony, for his memorable supporting role in Django Unchained.

Australian actress Kidman, most recently seen in films like The Paperboy and Stoker, won a best actress Oscar for The Hours in 2002.

Also joining the Cannes jury are veteran French actor Daniel Auteuil, Japanese filmmaker Naomi Kawase, Indian actress Vidya Balan, British director Lynne Ramsay and Romanian Cristian Mungiu, who won the festival's top prize in 2007 for his dark film 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days.

Altogether, 19 filmsincluding the latest by filmmakers Steven Soderbergh, Roman Polanski and the Coen brothers will vie for the festival's coveted Palme d'Or.

The Cannes film festival opens May 15 withBaz Luhrmann's lavish adaptation of The Great Gatsby, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan.
