Amazon said Thursday it had sold out of all of its Kindle Fire e-readers and did not specify whether it plans to make any more.

"Kindle Fire is sold out, but we have an exciting roadmap ahead," Amazon's CEO, Jeff Bezos, said. "We will continue to offer our customers the best hardware, the best prices, the best customer service, the best cross-platform interoperability and the best content ecosystem.

"We're grateful to the millions of customers who have made Kindle Fire the most successful product launch in the history of Amazon."

The online retailing giant launched the e-reader only last November, pricing it at $199. The company says the Kindle Fire is stillthe best-selling product it has ever sold.

Amazon offers more than 22 million movies, TV shows, apps, games, books and magazinesthat can be consumed on the Kindle. After nine months of sales, the Kindle currently represents 22 per cent of all tablet sales in the U.S., the company says.

In a press release on Thursday, Amazon made no mention of any plans to make more of the devices, or indeed of any plans to replace it.

ButBezos is hosting a secretive press event on Sept. 6 where speculation is he will unveil a new Amazon tablet computer, with all the capabilities of the Kindle and more.
