Recent changes to the Canadian Transportation Agency's complaints process broaden the type of decisions airlines can contest in court. Some legal experts say that may lead to more being passengers dragged into legal battles with their airline.

Some retailers are beefing up anti-theft measures, such as locking the wheels on shopping carts, that have raised the ire of shoppers. Loblaw and an industry group says retailers are fighting a rise in organized crime.

It was predicted that the all-self-checkout format would eventually become the norm. But, instead, several big box chains in Canada and the U.S. continue to ditch self-checkout machines at a number of their stores. Some experts and retailers say, in many cases, theft is the main culprit.

To combat Canada's growing reusable bag problem, Walmart just launched a recycling pilot program. Sobeys and Loblaw-owned chains are now delivering groceries in paper bags. But some environmental experts argue these solutions don't quite cut it.

Loblaw announcing in January it would bring back 50 per cent discounts on perishable food, but some Real Canadian Superstore customers still feel shortchanged. Thats because the Loblaw-owned chain will continue to discount all food nearing its best-before date by 30 per cent.

In an attempt to combat theft, Loblawis testing receipt scanners at four of its stores, the grocery giant told CBC News.Customers who use self-checkout must scan their receipt's barcode confirming that they paid something which opens a metal gate, letting them leave.

It comes as no surprise to some industry experts: Air Canada hiked its first checked-bag fee by $5 for economy-type fares this week, just two weeks after WestJet did the same.
