General Motors added a number of recalls to its growing list today, pushing its total mostly in North America to more than 11 million this year.

A total of2.4 million of those vehicles are being recalled worldwide, including194,314 in Canada. The Detroit automaker said it knows of several hundred complaints, 13 crashes and two injuries caused by the problem.

When those figures are included, the total number of new recalled GM cars in Canada jumps to201,683, and just under threemillion worldwide.

Along with sizeable recalls from Toyota, Ford, Chrysler and others, GM's actions have the U.S. auto industry on pace to break the record of 30.8 million recalled vehicles set in 2004. GM also is close to breaking its own U.S. recall record of 11.8 million, also from 2004.

The company expects to take a $200-million charge this quarter for the added recalls.
