Target Canada closing 30 more stores by April 1

Target Canada will be closing 30 more stores to the public by April 1. Last week, the retailer closed its first 16 locations. That leaves 87 Canadian stores that dont yet have a closing date.

Target Canada will be closing 30 more stores to the public by April 1. Last week, the retailer shut down its first 16 locations.

That leaves 87 Target stores that dont yet have a closing date. The U.S.-based companyis expected to shut down all its Canadian locations by mid-May, putting about 17,600 employees out of work.

Currently, Target Canada is advertising liquidation sales with discounts of between 40 and 60 per cent. It also informs the public in signs in the stores that say, Time is running out!

A Target Canada store manager told CBC news that the latest locationsslated to closewill be offering different discounts.

"They are going to be more aggressive, but selection will likely be a lot less,"he said.

Targetstores inthe followinglocationswill closeat the end of the shopping day on these dates:

Closing March 27:

Closing March 30:

  • Saint-Jrme, Que.
  • Montreal (Place Versailles).
  • Saint-Laurent, Que.

  • Hamilton, Ont. (Meadowlands Power Centre).
  • Welland, Ont.

A worker at an Ontario Target store that closed last week told CBC News that her last day on the job was bittersweet.

"The store looked so empty, and all the [employees] were sad to say goodbye," she said. "A few people teared up as they were leaving."
