Target Canada closing 80 stores by Easter weekend

The end is near for Target Canada stores. The company is shutting 18 more locations on April 4. That means 96 stores will have shut their doors and just 37 others will remain open to the public by Easter Sunday.

The end is near for Target Canada stores. The company is shutting 18 more locations on April 4. That means 96 stores will have shut their doors and just37 others will remainopen to the public by Easter Sunday.

The U.S.-based companyis expected to shut down all its 133 Canadian operationsby mid-May, putting about 17,600 employees out of work.

Target closed 16 stores last week and will shut down a total of 80more by April 4.

A manager at a Target Canada store slated for closure told CBC News thatliquidators believe they can quicklyoffload remainingmerchandise if they can getpermission to sell it at a deep discount.

Target stores in thefollowing locationswill cease sales to the public on April 4:

  • St. John's
  • Corner Brook, Nfld.
  • Fredericton, N.B.
  • Laval, Que. (Mega Centre Notre-Dame)
  • Laval, Que. (Centre Laval)
  • Quebec City (Galeries de la Capitale)
  • Joliette, Que.
  • Lvis, Que.
  • Boisbriand, Que.
  • London, Ont. (Westmount Shopping Centre)
  • Newmarket, Ont.
  • Richmond Hill, Ont.
  • Toronto (Shoppers World Danforth)
  • Red Deer, Alta.
  • Edmonton (Kingsway Garden Mall)
  • Calgary (Sunridge Mall)
  • Delta, B.C.
  • Kamloops, B.C.
