A classic May long weekend in the cards for Vancouver

As if on cue, a low pressure system will park itself over the province for the second half of the week meaning a long weekend forecast that's tough to predict.

Get ready for a return to seasonal temperatures, and even a few showers just in time for the long weekend.

If you were thinking that it seems like it rains every single May long weekend inVancouveryou would be right. Looking back to just 2010,Vancouver saw some kind of rain over the course of the three days every single year.

And right on cue forthis May long weekend, a big area of low pressure will move in across the province for the second half of the week. Temperatures will come back down to the high teens for Metro Vancouver and days will be mainly cloudy.

Our first round of showers begins Wednesday night through to Thursday.

Mainly dry Friday

For those planning on starting the long weekend early, Vancouver may catch a bit of a break on Friday.

A low pressure system parks itself right over southern B.C. for the long weekend, leading to a variable forecast.

It might be a little early to start planning to take Friday off though the various weather models have been shifting the start of the next round of rain.

Some models have it starting as early as Friday afternoon while others keep Friday dry.

Showery Saturday and Sunday

The low pressure system will be firmly in place across southern B.C. by the weekend meaning rounds of showers.

It's not a wash-out weekend, but it is the kind of weather that's hard to nail down as far as the exact timing of the rain.

And there may be sunny breaks too. Temperatures will be back up to the high teens.

Drier Monday, though we need the rain

Right now, there's a chance things could dry out again on Monday with the sun returning as well.

It's not just Metro Vancouver getting the cooler, cloudier weather most of the province will be under the influence of this low pressure system.

But this is all very good news for the fire danger. It has been at extreme for northeastern sections of B.C. the past few days, meaning new fires can start quickly and burn quickly.

The change in weather should lessenthe danger.

And any rain at this point, is good news for cities low reservoirs after a record warm April and start to May.

Keep an eye on the forecast though things can often change when dealing with these big low pressure systems in our upper atmosphere.
