Abbott set to join B.C. Liberal race

A release from Abbott Wednesday said his Vancouver announcement would concern "whether or not he will seek the leadership," but CBC News has learned the veteran cabinet minister has decided to enter the race and will demonstratethe support of a cadre ofcolleagues at the morningevent.

The former college instructor from the Sicamous area has been the most open about his inclination to run to replace Premier Gordon Campbell in the Feb. 26 leadership vote.

Health Minister Kevin Falcon says he's"four or five days"away from making his decision public, while Solicitor General Rich Coleman and Attorney General Mike de Jong are currently considering runs.

Former Liberal cabinet minister Christy Clark, now a Vancouver hotline radio host, is also reported to be poised to enter the race, with an announcement expected soon.

Abbott did not name any of his caucus supporters, but sources say Surrey-White Rock MLA Gordon Hogg will be among them.

Abbott joins former skills development minister Moira Stilwell who entered the race Monday.
