B.C. Green leader goes national

B.C. Green Party Leader Adriane Carr is leaving provincial politics to become one of two deputy leaders of the federal Green Party.

B.C. Green Party Leader Adriane Carr is leaving provincial politics to become one of two deputy leaders of the federalparty.

National Leader Elizabeth May announced that Carr will make the move at the end of the month.

May said Carr is a "phenomenal leader"andwas an easy choice to make.

"She's got atremendous grasp of the issues,she's articulate and she's well liked and loved in the community,"Maysaid. "And I want to elect Green party MPs from British Columbia."

Carr led the B.C. party through the 2001 and 2005 provincial elections, but was unable to make a breakthrough by electing any MLAs. An interim replacement will be decided onbythe party's provincial council on Nov. 30.

The other deputy leader announced by May is Claude William Genest, the former vice-present of theGreen Party of Quebec.
