Trails closed after bear attacks woman at Squamish, B.C., estuary

Officials say a woman was attacked by a bearwhile walking her dog at a nature estuary in Squamish, B.C.

The trails have been closed since the attack on Friday,BritishColumbia'sConservation Officer Service saidin a Facebook post.

Officers saidthe woman noticed two bear cubs and was "suddenly charged" by afemale bear, suffering non-life-threatening injuries in the attack. The bear ran off and wasn't found in later searches of the area.

The trails at the estuary havebeen closed, with caution tape and barricades set up to keep people out of the area, the District of Squamish saidin a statement.

Conservation officers are investigatingthe incident andurging hikers to travel in groups and to make sure pets are leashed to avoid similar wildlife encounters.

Squamish is located around 50 kilometres north of Vancouver.
