School buses not running in Cariboo due to snowy weather; schools remain open

School buses in the in Cariboo-Chilcotin aren't running todaybecause of blowing snow and poor road conditions.

"The snow has come a few days ago and it basically hasn't stopped, " said School District 27 superintendentMark Wintjes.

"We're just making sure that we keep the kids safe and our staff as well."

Thetemporary shutdown affects buses servicing the areas of Williams Lake and 100 Mile House including Horsefly Lake and Big Lake.

Wintjes says the districtlooks at the weather and road conditions every morning and decides whether it's safe to run the buses.

"We try to make that decision based on what we are hearing from highways and looking at reports from our drivers."

Schools in the region are still open.
