Colin Hill, slain Surrey homeowner, mourned by son

The son of Colin Hill, who was shot and killed trying to stop a man from breaking into his Surrey, B.C. home, wants everyone to know the "hero" his father was to him.

Matthew Hill wrote a tribute to his father, describing how he'll miss his dad's advice, jokes, and even prodding to wake him up.

"He's also a role model, mentor, best friend, a hero and more ... We all miss and think about him every second of the day."

"I'm going to miss telling my dad what I did today. I'm going to miss asking my dad for advice. I'm going to miss his jokes and how he wakes me up and tells me to do more than sleep half the day. I'm going to miss having long talks with him every night. I'm going to miss seeing my dad sitting on the seats watching my hockey games.

"I'm going to miss every single little thing about him and what he does."

'What that man did to my dad is unforgivable'

Colin Hill, 42, was protecting his family when he was shot Sunday night, according to his wife and Matthew's mother, Becky Zhou.

He tried holding the door closed to the intruder, telling the rest of the family to hide, and led the intruder out of the home to keep his wife and two kids safe, she wrote.

In Matthew's letter, shared by Zhou Friday, he thanked friends, family and "the whole community," for their support, and asked for the man charged in the murder to "stay in jail forever."

Khouri Lamar Green, 22, has been charged with second-degree murder, and has a long criminal history.

"Right now, all we want is my dad to come back. ButMr. Greenhas made that impossible. So we want my dad to get justice because what that man did to my dad is unforgivable."

Green's case has been put over until September.
