The long anticipated Evergreen Line will open Friday, Dec. 2, giving commuters in the Tri-Cities area a new option for getting where they need to go.

The $1.43 billion, 11-kilometre SkyTrain extension will provide a link between Burnaby, Port Moody and Coquitlam.

TransLink estimates that by 2021, about 70,000 passengers will travel each day betweenLougheedTown Centre inBurnabyand the terminus atLarfargeLake-Douglas inCoquitlam.

The project had a number of delays and problems during its construction period, including the appearance of four sinkholes during tunnel boring, and the shifting of a large segment of the elevated concrete track bed.

In March of 2014 a massive elevated concrete track shifted out of position during construction of the Evergreen Line. (CBC)

The line includes six new stations and a new, third platform at Lougheed Town Centre.
