Dixie Chicks bring Long Time Gone tour to B.C.

Its a long time since the Dixie Chicks last hit the road, so long, in fact,that the band is calling their current tour the Long Time Gone Tour.

They havent taken their act on the road since 2007 and havent released a new studio album since 2006, but in all that time theyve never broken up the band.

The mid-2000s were tumultuous years for the Dixie Chicks thanks to a comment about the Iraq war made by lead singer Natalie Mains during a London performance in 2003.

"Just so you know, we're on the good side with y'all. We do not want this war, this violence, and we're ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas."

Canada became a friendly place to play,in contrast to the harsh backlash the band faced in America. While the turmoil may have diminished, that good feeling towards Canada persists.

Natalie Mainesalready performed a solo set for the Vancouver Folk Festival last summer and very soon the Dixie Chicks will tour Canada with three stops in British Columbia.

The band plays Vancouver onOct. 26,Kelowna on Oct. 27and Dawson Creek onOct. 29.
