Triathlete drowns during Kelowna event, says RCMP

The B.C. Coroners Service is investigating after a 57-year-old woman from Saskatchewan was pulled from a pool in Kelowna during a triathlon and could not be revived by first-responders.

Kelowna RCMP say just after 9 a.m. PT Sunday emergency crews rushed to the H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre on Gordon Drive.

In a release, police say the victim was pulled from the water by life guards who immediately began CPR.

"Preliminary information indicates that the woman may have been in medical distress prior to going below the water's surface," said the release.

Police say the woman wasparticipating in the Cherry Blossom Triathlon at the time of the incident andwas rushed from the facility to Kelowna General Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
