Rat traps are flying off store shelves in Kamloops as residents try to get a handle ona growing problem.

John McCurrach, owner of Purity Feeds, says he's selling more rat traps than ever before.

"I think we're seeing a population explosion right now," said McCurrach.

Rat reports first started spiking inKamloopslast month, something that may have been related to ripening fruit and vegetable gardens.

But as the weather gets colder, rats willlook to move indoors, seekingawarmandprotected place tonest andreproduce.

"Ratslove tohide in piles of wood and lumber. If you have campers or RVs or trailers, make sure they're above ground, jacked up, so rats and mice can't get in," advisedMcCurrach.
