Langley teen injured in fall from party bus

The RCMP is warning young people of the dangers of drinking on so-called party buses after two teenaged girls fell out the side door of such a bus in Langley, B.C.

The incident happened last Friday, when a side door popped open as the bus rounded a corner, causing two girls to fall out.

One of the girls was knocked unconscious when she hit the ground, and was treated in hospital for head injuries before she was released, while the second girl wasn't hurt.

RCMP Corp. Holly Marks say the incident could have been fatal, and they're considering charges after they found several bottles of booze in the bus.

"The kids in this bus were 16 and 17 years old. Most of them were in varied states of sobriety and intoxication and parents should be very aware about the reality of party buses and how they are used and what's going on when the kids go out," said Marks.

Using party buses as mobile dance floors is particularly dangerous, notes Marks.

"I would suggest that in these party busses where they are standing and dancing while the vehicle is in motion while it travels through Lower Mainland traffic there is a huge safety concern there," said Marks.

Police are used to seeing more cases of underage drinking this time of year as high school graduates are out celebrating and they urge people to be responsible.

"Anytime we take our children out and put them in a vehicle we ensure that they are buckled in," she said.
