Larry Campbell endorses Falcon

B.C. Senator and former Vancouver Mayor Larry Campbell announced Wednesday he was supporting Kevin Falcon for leader of the B.C. Liberals.

B.C. Senator and former Vancouver Mayor Larry Campbell announced Wednesday he was supporting Kevin Falcon for leader of the B.C. Liberals.

"I think he's straightforward, I think he's held two very difficult ministries and has done well in both of them," Campbell said.

"We haven't always agreed but he's always been honest and upfront and he's always listened."

Campbell, who was Vancouver mayor for the Coalition of Progressive Electors party, also known as COPE, said Falcon is the right candidate to lead the Liberals.

"I don't think he's a far righty, I don't think he's a far lefty, I think he can move back and forth across the spectrum."

Campbell said he hasn't gone through all of Falcon's policies in detail, but believes Falcon has the qualities that will make him an excellent leader.

"At the end of the day, I've never agreed with all of the policies of any governments, and that's just the way life is," Campbell said.

"But I've always found him to be very available and to be able to listen to other arguments and get involved in a debate, which I think is pretty critical."

The Liberal leadership convention, called after Gordon Campbell stepped down in November, will be held on Feb. 26.
