A YouTube video that appears to show a police vehicle driving into the oncoming lane to block some longboarders has prompted an investigation by West Vancouver police.

"West Vancouver Police are aware of concerns being expressed via social media regarding the videotaped interaction between a WVPD officer and longboarders on Finch Hill Road in West Vancouver last week," the department said in a statement released on Monday morning.

The incident happened last Wednesday and was recorded and posted on YouTube by someone who says he was one of the longboarders, Danny Carlson.

"GoPro footage of a cop cutting in front of myself,Lee Cation, andKeenan Macartney in West Van. Super scary! I'm glad no one got creamed by this idiot!" according to an entry on Carlson'sFacebook page.

In the video, the longboarders are descending the hill at a fast speed when they swerve off the road to avoid a collision with the police vehicle. Afterwards, they get in a shouting match with the police officer.

"The interaction is now under an internal review to determine whether all WVPD policies and guidelines were properly followed and whether any further action is warranted in connection with this occurrence," said the police statement.

Longboarding is banned in West Vancouver.
