Lumby woman wins $1 million after fire destroys home

It's been an emotional summer for Sarah Ross, whose family home in Lumby, B.C., burned down in June.

It hasbeen an emotional summer for Sarah Ross, whose family home in Lumby, B.C., burned down in June.

She and her family lost everything in the fire and havebeen living in a rental unit ever since.

But last week herluck changed when she checked her lottery ticket and realized she had won $1 million in the Lotto 6/49 draw.

The 33-year-old said both she and her husband plan to keep their jobs, but there may be some travel in their future.

"The first things I bought after winning Lotto 6/49 were stuffed animals for my kids," said the mother of two. "This is exciting, because when the time comes we can help them with university!"

Ross says she bought the winning ticket at the Pharmasave on 30th Avenue in Vernon.

While picking up her cheque, she thankedthe community for helping her family outwhenthey lost their home.

"It's been an emotional time," said Ross. "Our family and community have been so supportive throughout the summer. We're very thankful."
