1 dead, 5 injured in motorcycle crash north of Pemberton

B.C. Emergency Health Services says five people were transported to hospital after a motorcycle incident north of Pemberton, near Duffey Lake.

Highway 99 was expected to be closed in both directions until late Sunday night

A motorcyclist died and five other people wereinjured in a crash Sundayon the Sea to Sky Highway north of Pemberton, according to RCMP.

In anews release,Pemberton RCMP saidfour motorcycles were heading northbound on Highway 99 approximately ninekilometresnorth of Joffre Lake when up to three of the motorcycles collided with a southbound vehicle.

One motorcycle rider from the Lower Mainland was declared dead at the scene

According to police, an off duty doctor and paramedicsimmediately provided first aid to the five injuredvictims.

B.C. Emergency Health Services saidit received thecall around 12:30 p.m.and that multiple ambulances and two air ambulances responded.

Two motorcyclists and two peoplefrom the vehicle were taken to area hospitals with what appeared to be minor injuries, police said. Amotorcycle passengerwas also airlifted to a Lower Mainland hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

DriveBC said Highway 99 near Pemberton was closed in both directions with no detour availablewhile investigatorscollected evidence at the scene.

The highway wasn't expected toreopen before 11:30 p.m Sunday.

Motorcyclist dies in Friday crash

Sunday's new release from Pemberton RCMP also reportedthat another motorcyclist was killed in a crash onFriday evening on Highway 99approximately 10 km north of the In-Shuck-ch Forest Service Road.

At approximately 5 p.m., policereceived a report thatthe motorcycle was travelling northbound on Highway 99, lost control on a corner, slid intooncoming traffic and was struck by a southbound vehicle.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 31-year-old man from Vancouver, did not survive his injuries.

The highway was closed in both directions while investigators collected evidence and cleared the roadway. It reopened after midnight.
