Trashed Surrey NightShift van leaves outreach organization limping

An outreach organization in Surrey says one of its vans was stolen and damaged this week, leaving the organization "limping."

NightShift Street Ministries serves hot meals and distributes clothing and blankets daily to vulnerable people in Whalley, a part of Surrey B.C.

Mary Anne "Mac" Connor says without the 2004White Ford E-350cargovan, "we are going to limp" because it's used everyday to pickup and distribute food, clothing, and other items.

"Part of me was angry and sad thatsomeone would take advantage of an organization that helps thousands and thousands of people," said Connor.

"The first day of the New Year was get our essential vehicle broken into? Just give your head a shake!"

The truck was parked in South Surrey and stolen overnight on New Year's Eve.

Policefound the vehicle but it had been broken into and the ignition, steering column and door locks weredamaged.

Connor is not sure it can be driven again.

The van will be towed to Langley B.C. and checked for fingerprints by police, before it is released.
