Intruder arrested after unusual North Vancouver break-in

An alleged intruderis in hospital with serious injuries after a break-in at an apartment building in North Vancouver on Thursday night.

RCMP said officers were called to the building in the 2600 block of Fromme Road around 8 p.m. They said the man had entered the Lynn Valley building through a first-floor patio and made his way to the second floor, where he tried to break into several suites.

Sgt. Peter DeVries said the man, who's in his 40s, then went to the third floor and made his way intoasuite. DeVries said the suspect was carrying a knife and barricaded himself inside the home.

A statement issued Friday said officers arrived to find the man hanging from the window of the third-floor unit.He dropped to the ground and wasseriously injured in the fall.

The man was taken to hospital andis expected to survive. He is in police custody.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. confirmed its team has been deployed to investigate whether the officers' action or inaction led the man's injuries. The officeinvestigates all deaths and serious injuriesthat may have been the result of the actions of a police officer.

RCMP said the suspect isknown to police and the force'sinvestigation into the break-in is ongoing. No residents were injured in the incident.
