RCMP in Prince George investigating 2 suspicious deaths in 2 days

Police in Prince George say they are investigating two suspicious deaths over the weekend. Investigators in both cases have deemed the deaths to be suspicious but do not believe there is a wider risk to the public, according to RCMP releases.

RCMP in Prince George say they are investigating two suspicious deaths over the weekend.

The first investigation was launched after Prince George RCMP found a body off the Salmon River Forest Service Roadjust north of city limits around 3 p.m. PT Saturday.

The North District Major Crimes Unit and B.C. Coroners Service have taken over the investigation.

Then on Sunday, shortly after 10:30 a.m. PT,police were called to the 2000-block of Quince Street, near the city's downtown, for a report of a dead woman.

Investigators in both cases have deemed the deaths to be suspicious but do not believe there is a wider risk to the public, according to RCMP releases.

Prince George has already recorded two homicides this year, following a shooting at a homeless encampment in January and a fatal shooting on downtown Victoria Street in February.

In 2023, the city recorded eighthomicidesthe most ever in a calendar year.

According to publicly available slides from the report, violent crime in 2023 was up over the previous three years, with more than 1,400assault calls.
