Richard Branson joins Vancouver's green initiative

British billionaire Richard Branson is lending his support to the City of Vancouver's efforts to fight climate change and create green jobs.

Mayor Gregor Robertson announced the deal at the Climate Summit for Mayors being held in Copenhagen during the United Nations climate change conference.

No details have been released, but Robertson said the partnership will help attract money needed to bolster the city's so-called Green Capital economic initiative.

The plan is aimed at drawing new, environmentally friendly business to B.C., partly by cashing in on the city's profile from the Winter Olympics, and will be launched during the Games.

Branson said he's impressed with the plan and is looking forward to promoting it by working with Robertson, the city and other businesses partners.

Branson is the founder and chair of the Virgin Group.
