Girl, 4, dies in 'freak tragedy' while skateboarding in Parksville, B.C.

The young girl vacationing at an RV park with her family was playing on a skateboard when she lost control and was hit by a car.

A young girlis dead after she was hit by a vehicle while riding a skateboard in a campground in Parksville, B.C.

The four-year-old from Calgary was hit bya car after she lost control of her skateboard at theParadise Adventure RV Resort Wednesday afternoon, police said.

"Just a freak tragedy that nobody wishes on anyone," said Oceanside RCMPCpl. Jesse Foreman. The girl's family was on vacation in the area.

The officer saidthe girl was on her stomach on the skateboard, paddling ona road,when she lost control and crashed into an oncoming car.

"The vehicle that did strike the young girl was travelling extremely slow and just pulling off to park," Foreman said.

"The girl lost control of her skateboard and went right in front of the tire so it was something that was completely unavoidable."

Other campers, including an off-duty doctor, rushedto help the girl butForeman saidshe died en route to the hospital.

He added the family does not blamethe driverand there was nothing they could have done to preventthe accident.

There will be nocharges against the driver, police said.
