B.C. NDP calls for full Woodlands compensation

B.C.'s Opposition leader is working to help 300 abuse survivors at the Woodlands School get the same compensation won by younger peers in a class-action lawsuit settlement approved last month.

NDP Leader Adrian Dix met with former residents of the New Westminster school on Monday to urge Premier Christy Clark to extend relief beyond the 900 people who endured harm at the hands of staff.

A legal loophole means thesettlement reached in early July doesn't apply to Woodlands residents who were abused before 1974.

Dix said the provincial Liberals should look past the technicality before the September 19 deadline to apply for relief or else he will introduce a motion to do so in the legislature next month.
