Cummins vows to allow beer, wine sales in supermarkets

B.C. Conservative leader John Cummins says his government would allow beer and wine sales in supermarkets and corner stores to give people more choice when it comes to buying liquor.

Speaking in a Kelowna supermarket, Cummins said the move would also be good for the B.C. economy.

"The convenience stores would appreciate the opportunity to make those sales as well... so I think it does certainly impact on small business as well," he said.

Currently, Quebec is the only province in Canada where beer and wine can be purchased at such locations.

Earlier in the day, Cummins became the latest party leader to back upgrades to the Penticton Regional Hospital.

He will be in Vernon on Wednesday to make a policy announcement concerning ranchers.
