1-hour deluge dumps 18 mm on West Vancouver

Residents across Metro Vancouver were woken up by torrential rain, thunder and lightning last night, as a band of extremely wet weather crossed the South Coast of B.C. just before midnight.

Storm brought heavy rain, thunder, lightning and some flooding

Residents across Metro Vancouver were treated totorrential rain, thunder and lightning last night, as a band of extremely wet weather crossed the South Coast of B.C. just before midnight.

Nearly1,000 lightning strikes were recorded during the hour-long storm which dumped 17 mm of rain on the downtown area and 18 mm at the Point Atkinson lighthouse in West Vancouver.

To the south, Vancouver International Airport recorded 12 mm of rain during the downpour.Environment Canada did issue a special statement about the rain, but did not indicate that any records had been broken.

Fortunately for those with plans to enjoy the upcoming long weekend outside, the weather is forecast to clear up onSaturday and Sunday before the showers return early next week.
