2 in hospital, 3 arrested after gang shooting and multi-vehicle crash in Surrey

RCMP are investigating after a string of eventsMonday night that led to the hospitalization of two people and the arrest of several others.

RCMP are investigating after a string of events Monday night that led to the hospitalization of two people and the arrest of several others.

Investigators believe that the incident was targeted, involvedpeople whoknow each other,and is related to Lower Mainland gang activity.

According to a statement from RCMP,a blue Honda Civicand a grey Dodge Charger were involved in the incident.

"At this time, it is believed thatshots were fired by the occupants of one of the two vehicles involved, and it is not believedthere wasan exchange of gunfire between vehicles," the statement reads in part.

"Investigators believe that the vehicles involved may have been engaged in dangerous driving in the area of 148 Streetand 108 Avenueprior to the reports of shots fired in the 15300 block of 102A Street, at 9 p.m."

Mounties said one car crashed into a house.

Two people were taken to hospital with serious injuries:one with gunshot wounds and another whose injuries arebelieved to have been caused by the crash.

RCMPsaid guns were found and seized from the scene.

Five men, ranging in ages from 18 to 26, who are known to police, were detained for investigative purposes. Charges have not been laid as the investigation is ongoing.

Police say there is no longer a risk to public safety.

The Surrey RCMP Serious Crimes Unit has taken conduct of this investigation, along withIntegrated Collision Analyst andReconstructionist Services, the Integrated Forensic Identification Team, and the Surrey Gang Enforcement Team.

Investigators will be conducting inquiries in the neighbourhoodssurrounding both the scenes.

Surrey's 100 Avenue between 156 and 160streets remains closed while police investigate. On Tuesday morning, the stretch of road was littered with yellow police evidence markers and debris from the crash.
