UNBC strike notice threatens final exams

Final exams at the University of Northern British Columbia might not go ahead if professors walk off the job Thursday morning.

Yesterday, the Faculty Association of UNBC issued 72-hour strike notice.

If the strike goes ahead, faculty and support staff will walk off the job at campuses in Prince George, Quesnel, Terrace, Fort St John and Langara College in Vancouver where some UNBC faculty teach an MBA program.

Professors will withdraw all services including administering final exams, according to Jacqueline Holler, the president of the UNBC Faculty Association.

Holler said it is not clear how long any job action would last, if the strike goes ahead.

"It's something that depends on how quickly an agreement can be completed once job action has commenced. What I can say is we are ready to negotiate as we have been through this whole process," she said.

Faculty and administration have been negotiating since last November, but there is still no agreement on pay, tenure and promotion.
