Border officials discovered suspected heroin hidden in the false bottom of a suitcase at the Calgary International Airport (CBSA)

A man is facing charges after 2.9 kilograms of suspected heroin was seized at the Calgary International Airport.

A 26-year-old man faces charges after Canada Border Services Agency officers found suspected heroin in his luggage after he arrived in Calgary from Frankfurt last week. (CBSA)

The 26-year-old man, who just arrived on a flight from Frankfurt, was sent for a second examination by Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers on Saturday, officials said in a release.

Officers found a false bottom in the mans suitcase concealing the suspected narcotics.

The man was arrested and charged with two counts under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

He will appear in Calgary provincial court on May 30.

So far this year border officershave made 60 drug seizures at the airport, according to the CBSA.

This is second heroin seizure in Calgary this year.

In 2013, the CBSA seized almost 20 kilograms of heroin at the airport.
