2 more men charged in connection to Shane Smith homicide

Police have laid charges against two more people in connection with the killing of a Chestermere man in June.

Police have laid charges against two more people in connection with the killing of a man fromChestermere, Alta., in June.

Shane Eric James Smith, 20, was reported missing by family members on June 7 and had been last seen the day before in McKenzie Towne, a neighbourhoodin Calgary's southeast.

Investigators with the Calgary Police Service believe Smith was killed sometime late at night on June 6 at a residence in southeast Calgary.His body has not yet been found.

Back in June,Ian Charles Abercrombie, 24, of Calgary, was charged on several counts, including one count of second-degree murder in connection with Smith's death.

Last month, Smith's family gave an emotional plea to anyone who has information on the case.

This Calgary mother says their "world was shattered" six weeks ago when Shane Smith disappeared, and now his family is pleading for any details that would allow them to say goodbye.

Police said in anews release Tuesday thattwo more men have been linked to Smith's death.

Andrew Leger-Wagner, 23, of Calgary was charged with:

  • 1 count of obstruction of justice.
  • 1 count of indignity to a human body.
  • 2 counts of firearms trafficking.
  • 1 count of providing a false statement.
  • 1 count of public mischief.
  • 1 count of failure to comply with undertaking.

Andrew Thomas Bablitz, also known as Andrew Thomas Farias, 24, of Calgary, is charged with:

  • 1 count of obstruction of justice.
  • 1 count of indignity to a human body.
  • 2 counts of firearms trafficking.
  • 2 counts of careless transportation or storage of a firearm.
  • 2 counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm.
  • 1 count of possession of a weapon obtained by the commission of an offence.
  • 1 count of possession of a prohibited device.

Police are asking anyone with information on the case or the location of Smith's remains to call the detachment or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
