Calgary entertainment: 5 things to do this weekend

It's the first weekend of Calgary's major theatre festival, but there's so much more to see and do.

1)High Performance Rodeo

Calgary's One Yellow Rabbit theatre company is looking to outdo itself and break boundaries with its30th anniversary Rodeo, whichfeaturing 24 shows andperformers from around the globe. This year's lineup has something for everyone conmen, canoes, vintage sci-fi, bicycles andeven a dance club in an elevator and that's just in the first week alone.It runs through Jan.31.

2)Glenbow Museum

If you find it's still a little chilly out, consider staying in andrevisiting the hub of southern Alberta history. Can't get there this weekend? On Thursday admission is free! FreeFirst Thursday Night'sis a program that runs for 12 weeks for the first Thursday of every month from5-9 p.m. More info atwww.glenbow.org

3) I'll Crane for You

Two majornames in Canadian modern dance, Christopher House and Deborah Hay, have come together to bring a unique performance to the Calgary stage. House performs in a solo piece I'll Crane for Youwithout any music backup. It's meant to challenge the way we think about and experience the body on stage. Performances run Saturday through Sunday with a matinee and an evening show. It takes place at the Matthews Theatre at the University of Calgary.

4)The Motorcycle Show

Longing for summer already?This weekend the Motorcycle Show is taking over the BMO Center. It's for lovers of fuel-powered fun on two wheels but also somethingthe whole family can enjoy.The show goes through until Sunday afternoon. 5) Music Mile

Ninth Avenue S.E. has been dubbed theMusic Mileof Calgary. The stretch spans betweenthe Blues Can in Inglewood tothe newStudio Bell that's under construction in East Village. Popularclubs and stages such as the Ironwood, Fort Calgary,Lolita'sLoungeand Festival Hallwill feature live music in many genres starting at 6 p.m. through to last call.
