Airdrie fire consumes home, occupants safe

A two-storey home in the Morningside subdivision of Airdrie is a complete loss from a fire Saturday morning but all occupants two adults and three children are safe, fire officials say.

A two-storey home in the Morningside subdivision of Airdrie is a complete loss from a fire Saturday morning but all occupantstwo adults and three childrenare safe, fire officials say.

Deputy ChiefGarth Rabel with the Airdrie Fire Department said the call came in about 9 a.m. Boxing Day.

A fire which appears to have started in the garage at 406 Coopers Dr. quickly moved to the second storey,Rabel said.

Firefighters were on the second floor when conditions became so extremethey had to evacuate.

There is some damage to adjacent homes but it's not significant, the deputy chief said.

A neighbour says the family of five has lost pretty much everything.

"Over the course of the day I have seen the firefighters come out with, it looked like they were able to save some of the presents," Jason Schindel said.

"But based on the house it looks like almost everything they have is gone."

Crossfieldfire assisted with the call which involved seven trucks and 21 firefighters.
