Pickup truck driver who killed this service dog sought by Airdrie RCMP

Austin, an eight-year-old American Eskimo service dog that was "very close with his owner," was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver three weeks ago, according to Airdrie RCMP.

Airdrie RCMPare asking for the public's help to identify the driver of a truck responsible for a hit-and-run that killed a local service dog.

Austin,an eight-year-old American Eskimo dog, was "very close with its owner" who required the animal for medical assistance, saidRCMP.

The dog was struck and killed nearly three weeks ago in the town's Silver Creek area. RCMPsaid the dog was being walked by theowner's roommate around 7 a.m. on Nov. 30 along Eighth Street North, when she lost control of the animal.

The dog made its way onto a street where it was struck and killed by a dark blue or green pickup truck.

Police said the male driver of the truck saw the dog and slowed down, but didn't stop after hitting the animal.

Investigators are now asking the public for help in identifying the driver and precise make, model and licence plate of the truck.
