Bear attack northwest of Calgary leaves man seriously injured

One man was transported to hospital with severe injuries after a bear attack just north of an intersection in Rocky View County, about 50 kilometres northwest of Calgary.

RCMP said injuries could be life threatening

One man was takento hospital with several severe injuries after being attacked by agrizzly bearin Rocky View County, about 53 kilometres northwest of Calgary on Sunday morning, according to Alberta EMS.

Alberta RCMP, along with Alberta Fish and Wildlife and EMSresponded to a call at around 10:20 a.m. just north of the intersection of Range Road 34 and Township Road 274.

Mounties said the injuries could be life threatening.

According to a spokesperson with the RCMP,thefemale grizzly bearwas with her cubs when the attack happened.

A spokesperson with EMS said the man was treated for multiple traumatic injuries and wastaken to Foothills hospital in what was "at least serious condition." They said no other people were harmed in the attack.

Further details about the manwere not immediately available.

A number of active bear warnings are in place for the province, however, all of them are at least 95 kilometres away from the area where the attack happened.
