An 11-year-old boy is in hospital with critical injuries after he was struck by a vehicle in the northwest community of Royal Oak on Monday morning.

Paramedics were called to Royal Oak Drive and Royal Terrace N.W. at about 8:30 a.m., said EMS spokesperson Adam Loria.

"EMS did transport a child in life-threatening condition to the Alberta Children's Hospital," he said.

Calgary police say the driver of the vehicle that struck the boy remained on scene.

Driver impairment is not believed to have been a factor.
